Penalties for paying late
“10% on any outstanding amount of any instalment not paid by the due date. 10% on amounts outstanding from prior years greater than $10.00, such penalty being applied on 1 October 2026 and 1 April 2027. (Same 10%/>$10 regime applies separately to unpaid metered water rates, on its own per-meter-reading-area penalty dates.)” — Central Otago District Council's own wording.
10% applied on 27 August 2026, 27 November 2026, 1 March 2027 and 27 May 2027 respectively for the four general-rates instalments (roughly 5-9 days after each due date); a further 10% on any prior-year balance over $10 applied 1 October 2026 and 1 April 2027. Metered water rates carry their own separate 10%/>$10 penalty regime with per-area penalty dates (e.g. 3 Sep 2026, 1 Oct 2026, 5 Nov 2026, 3 Dec 2026 for the first read round across the four meter-reading areas) — see notes.
