Penalties for paying late
“That Council resolves to apply penalty charges of 10% to so much of any instalment not paid on or before the due date on 4th September 2026 (for instalment 1), 4th December 2026 (for instalment 2), 5th March 2027 (for instalment 3), 4th June 2027 (for instalment 4).” — Clutha District Council's own wording.
10% applied 7 days after each instalment due date (4 Sep 2026 / 4 Dec 2026 / 5 Mar 2027 / 4 Jun 2027 for the 2026/27 instalments above); a separate 10% penalty applies to all rates/penalties unpaid from previous years as at 1 July 2025, added 3 July 2026, with a further 10% added 8 January 2027 on any of that amount still unpaid

Registrations expire on 30 June each year; the council's 'Registering your Dog' page states owners have one month after that to re-register (31 July) before a penalty is incurred. The Fees & Charges schedule labels the fixed-dollar addition 'Penalty Charge (After 1 August) - additional to fees above'.
