Penalties for paying late
“In 2015, the council decided to no longer charge penalties on arrears balances on the rate accounts. Now, we charge 10% to any portion of the current instalment not paid on or before the due date shown.” — Far North District Council's own wording.
10% applied on the penalty date attached to each instalment — 7 days after that instalment's own due date (e.g. instalment 1 due 20 August 2025, penalty applied 27 August 2025); no separate penalty on arrears carried from earlier years, per the council's 2015 policy change
