Penalties for paying late
“If you do not pay your rates by the date each instalment is due, there will be a 10% penalty. A further 10% penalty is added to any unpaid rates on 1 July, following the due date. An additional 10% will be incurred every six months thereafter.” — Gore District Council's own wording.
Gore's own page never states a specific day-count gap between the due date and the penalty (unlike councils that publish an exact penalty date) — the 10% instalment penalty applies once an instalment is unpaid by its due date; a further 10% arrears penalty is added on 1 July following the due date to any amount still unpaid, and an additional 10% every six months after that if it remains unpaid. Council's Registering a Dog page and Animal Management Fees and Charges 2026/2027 PDF both state a flat penalty ('If you are late paying your registration fee, there is a 40% penalty' / 'Late Registration Fee: Non-Working Dog 40%, Working Dog 40%') but neither publishes a specific calendar date the 40% penalty takes effect - only that the annual registration period runs 1 July to 30 June and renewal forms go out 'late June' / 'in June each year'.
