Penalties for paying late
“A penalty of 10 per cent of the amount of any instalment or part thereof that has been assessed after 1 July 2026 and which is unpaid after the due date. A penalty of 5 per cent to be added on 1 September 2026 on any unpaid rates and penalties to unpaid rates levied before 30 June 2026, which remain unpaid on 1 July 2026. A penalty of 10 per cent to be added on any amount of any metered water charge or part thereof that has been levied 1 July 2026 and which is unpaid after the due date.” — Buller District Council's own wording.
General rates: the penalty date equals the instalment due date itself (28 Aug 2026 / 30 Nov 2026 / 26 Feb 2027 / 28 May 2027) — a same-day case, same shape as Napier's already-logged finding, not the 1-day/7-day gap seen elsewhere. A separate one-off 5% arrears penalty applies 1 September 2026 to any pre-1-Jul-2026 balance still unpaid (not a repeating 6-monthly arrears penalty like several other councils in this sweep). Metered water: 10% penalty the day after each monthly due date (dates above).
