Penalties for paying late
“A 10% penalty will be added to any amount of the current instalment remaining unpaid after the due date. An additional charge of 10% will be added to any unpaid rates from previous year in March.” — Hauraki District Council's own wording.
10% applied the day after each instalment's own due date — 2 Oct 2026 for instalment one (due 30 Sep 2026) and 2 Apr 2027 for instalment two (due 31 Mar 2027), per the 26/27 penalty dates published; a further 10% arrears penalty applied in March on any rates unpaid from the previous rating year. Water rates (billed on a wholly separate schedule, see waterBilledSeparately) carry their OWN lighter 5% penalty applied twice — the day after each of water's own two instalment due dates for <10,000kl users, or after the 2nd and 5th of four instalments for >10,000kl users — a different percentage from the property-rates 10%, not folded into this field's percent.

Not a percentage penalty — a higher registration fee tier applies. HDC's own 'Fees for Dogs and Other Animals' page publishes a two-column table: 'Registration Fee (Incl GST)' vs 'Fee if paid after 31 July', e.g. General Dog Entire $145.00 -> $217.50. The Register-your-dog page separately states 'ROL Applications are accepted from 1 June to 15 July each year. Failure to register your dog by 31 July will disqualify your ROL.'
