Penalties for paying late
“F. SETS the following penalties will apply as follows: (a) A charge of 10 percent on so much of any instalment, excluding metered water charges, that has been assessed after 1 July 2026, and which is unpaid after the due dates below [28 August 2026 / 26 February 2027]. (b) A charge of 10 percent on so much of any metered water charges, excluding for those connected to the Ōtorohanga Community Water Supply, that have been assessed after 1 July 2026, and which is unpaid after the due dates below [26 February 2027 / 27 August 2027]. (c) A charge of 10 percent on so much of any metered water charges for those connected to the Ōtorohanga Community Water Supply, that have been assessed after 1 July 2026 and which is unpaid after the due dates below [27 November 2026 / 26 February 2027 / 28 May 2027 / 27 August 2027]. (d) A charge of 10 percent on so much of any rates, excluding metered water charges, assessed before 1 July 2026 that remain unpaid on 1 July 2026. (e) A further amount of 10 percent on any rates, excluding metered water charges, to which a penalty has been added under (d) if rates remain unpaid on 1 January 2027.” — Ōtorohanga District Council's own wording.
Per the adopted 2026/27 Rates Resolution (Item 48, Council meeting 30 June 2026): general-rates penalty applies once unpaid after each due date (28 Aug 2026, 26 Feb 2027); the two metered-water schedules each carry their own matching penalty dates (same dates as their own due dates); arrears penalty (10% further) on any pre-1-Jul-2026 balance still unpaid, applied 1 Jul 2026, with a second 10% if still unpaid 1 Jan 2027.

Council's Dog Control Fees & Charges page states, per its own numbered notes: 'Dog registration fees for the year are payable from 1 July in respect of all dogs ages 3 months or over' and 'Dogs not registered by 1 August will incur an additional 50% registration fee.' A news notice on the council's own site ('Good dogs go green this year - register your dog now!') independently confirms: 'Reminders were sent on 29 May, and registrations were due on 1 July.'
