Council-defined owner classifications: general, approved (automatic for first-time owners), selected (rural property <20ha) and farm (property >=20ha) owners each carry their own fee tier — see notes for the classification criteria. Registering a NEW dog partway through the year (puppy turning 3 months, or a dog imported/adopted) uses a separate monthly pro-rata fee schedule by classification (e.g. General owner: July $140 sliding down to June free of charge) rather than the flat by/after-31-July renewal fee above — not included in the fees array since it's a different fee structure (12 monthly figures per classification), described here instead. Desexing certificate submitted at registration/renewal earns a free year of registration (does not apply to dangerous/menacing dogs).
