Penalties for paying late
“An additional 10% charge will be added to those rates instalments (or portions thereof) remaining unpaid on the day following the due date. A further additional charge of 10% will be added to all rates and additional charges from the previous rating year remaining unpaid on 1 July, and a further 10% on any of that added charge remaining unpaid on the following 1 January.” — Hurunui District Council's own wording.

Dog registration
All dogs must be registered by the age of three months. You are then required to renew your dog's registration each year in July. After 1 August a 50% penalty will be added to unpaid dog registrations. The Fees & Charges page states: 'A 50% increase of the applicable fee will be applied if a registration has not been completed by the owner by 1 August 2026.'
