Penalties for paying late
“A 10% penalty is added to any part of an installment which remains unpaid after the last date for payment as shown above. A further 10% penalty will be added to unpaid rates from previous financial years unpaid on the later of 5 working days after the date of resolution. A further 10% penalty will be added to unpaid rates from previous financial years that remain unpaid after 6 months.” — Mackenzie District Council's own wording.
Council's own table gives a separate 'Last date for payment' 2 days after each stated due date (e.g. instalment 1: due date 20 September, last date for payment 22 September) - the penalty applies after that later date, not the due date itself. dueDate above records the Council's own 'Due date' column; the +2-day grace to the actual penalty trigger is flagged here rather than folded silently into dueDate.

Council's own 'Dogs and Animals fees and charges' page (headed 'Fees 2026/27'): 'A Penalty Fee for late registrations will be imposed after 1 August of 50% of the appropriate fee.' The 'Registering your dog' page separately states dogs must be registered 'every year by 31 July' and repeats on the fees/payment section: 'All dogs of three months or more must be registered by the due date of 31 July. Registration fees can be made in instalments up to 31 July.'
