Penalties for paying late
“A 10% penalty is added to any part of an instalment which remains unpaid after the last date for payment shown above. Pursuant to Sections 57 and 58, a penalty charge amounting to 10% of the amount unpaid will be added to any amount of the current instalment remaining unpaid seven days after the due date of that instalment. A penalty charge amounting to 10% of the amount of unpaid rates from previous financial years, including any penalty charge imposed before 30 June in the previous financial year, will be added in July and January each year.” — Waimakariri District Council's own wording.
10% applied seven days after each instalment due date — instalments are due on the 20th (Aug/Nov/Feb/May) with the penalty landing on the 27th of that same month (the 'Last Date for Payment' column on the council's own table); a further 10% on rates arrears from previous financial years, added in both July and January each year
