Penalties for paying late
“If your rates are not paid by the due date, a 10% penalty is added to the unpaid balance on 31 October. This is applied in line with Council policy and helps ensure fairness across all ratepayers. If rates remain unpaid, additional penalties may be added to arrears balances during the year... An additional 10% arrears penalty will be added to any arrears that remain unpaid by July and January each year.” — Bay of Plenty Regional Council's own wording.
10% applied 31 October to any balance still unpaid after the 20 October due date; a further 10% arrears penalty each July and January on amounts still unpaid.
