Water rates
Ordinary water use is included in general rates, but metered or excess use is billed separately.
“Targeted rates for metered water supply charged quarterly (separately) will be payable within 30 days of invoice” — Rotorua Lakes Council's own wording.
This describes the billing cycle, not a fixed due date — there's no calendar date published.
Penalties for paying late
“A penalty will be added to any part of an instalment that remains unpaid after the due date for payment of the instalment on the penalty dates above. The penalty will be 10% of the unpaid instalment. A further penalty of 10% will be added on 4 July to rates assessed in any previous financial year and which remain unpaid on 30 June. A further penalty of 10% will be added on 9 January to rates assessed in any previous financial year, plus any previous further penalty, and which remain unpaid on 31 December.” — Rotorua Lakes Council's own wording.
10% applied on a penalty date 3 days after each instalment due date (23 Aug / 23 Nov / 23 Feb / 23 May for the 2025/26 year quoted); a further 10% on prior-year arrears applied 4 July each year (on balances unpaid at 30 June) and a further 10% applied 9 January each year (on balances, plus the July penalty, still unpaid at 31 December)
